Matrescence is the process of becoming a mother, and just like adolescence is awkward, hilarious, and somewhat embarrassing.

Matrescence the musical project wants to celebrate the journey of the true heros, moms.  This musical will be comprised of true stories from mothers around the globe. Vignettes of women going through the heroic journey of discovering what motherhood is all about.

This unique process of writing a musical can not be done without you. So please share your story or your mothers/grandmothers story.

 

Prompt: Tell a story of becoming/being a new mother or a mother “coming of age” story. The story of Matrescence. This includes stories of infertility, and trying to conceive. Or stories of non-traditional mothering such as caring for your nieces and nephews.

    Really anything that is based on a true story that you are personally connected to. The beauty of musical theatre is it is a compilation of many art forms, and I’d love to have as many women involved as possible.

    Who are you working with?

    Kenady Sean is a first-time mom of a four-month old who is in the trenches of her matrescence. She also struggled with infertility and is a #IVFwarrior and understands the feeling of being a mom without a child, yet.

    KENADY SEAN (Composer, Lyricist, Bookwriter & Producer) is passionate about collaboration. Her greatest strength is seeing the talent in others and bringing them to the table where their voice can be heard. Kenady is currently developing four musical projects: The Scarlet Letter Musical, Beyond Perfection, We Can Do It!, and The Birthmark. The Birthmark was featured in Theatre Now’s Soundbites Festival in 2024. We Can Do It! was an award-winning festival participant of the 2023 National Women’s Theatre Festival. The Scarlet Letter Musical recently had a concert at Green Room 42 produced by Musicalwriters.com and Broadway DNA. The Scarlet Letter Musical is also a SheNYC Festival semi-finalist in 2022 and a Moxie Incubator Finalist in 2023. Beyond Perfection and The Scarlet Letter Musical have both had a workshop produced by or in conjunction with The Table Co/lab, now SheDFW. Kenady graduated with an MBA and a BS in Music Business from Dallas Baptist University where she received the Texas Business Hall of Fame Scholarship. Kenady was formally the community manager of Musicalwriters.com, where she fell in love with working and collaborating with other writers. Kenady’s production company has produced a full

    production, a festival production, a workshop, a staged reading that was live simulcast and numerous readings. Kenady also helped produce the inaugural MusicalWriters.com Festival. She currently is the regional moderator of Texas for Maestra Music, and hopes to improve gender parity in the musical theatre business. She is also a graduate of Theatre Resource Unlimited’s Producer Mentor Program.
